Networking
Networking is ‘mingling’ with people within your chosen profession, developing relationships and creating contacts.
Why Bother Networking?
Networking is a great way to get your personality out there and make yourself memorable. Presentations and career fairs are the perfect places to practise your networking skills. Talking to employers is very beneficial – no one is going to remember you if you never bother to introduce yourself! By making a good impression you may be helping your future self secure a job later.
Our Advice
Talk to people on their stalls and take note of their names and company, later you can search for them on twitter and linked in. By following them on social media you are permanently connected to them and they are even more likely to remember you.
Make a good impression by shaking their hand and don’t be shy to smile – remember the person stood in front of you was once in your position too.
Law societies are a great source of information and allow you to interact with other students, they also often put on events that you can attend and meet professionals.
Online forums are another way of keeping up to date with the latest law news and let you interact with trainees and solicitors who may be willing to share tips and advice on how to get a training contract.
