Car Accident Compensation Claim Pushes Premiums Up

The trend to make personal injury solicitors the scapegoat for soaring insurance premiums is based on insurance companies blaming those pursuing a car accident compensation claim for forcing them to have to put up the cost of premiums.

The trend continued this week as it emerged that teenage drivers are being forced off the road by insurance premiums that have increased up to 50%, sometimes amounting to several times the cost of the cars themselves.

Cambridge First reported today that an 18 year old was quoted £3,100 for insurance on a Ford Fiesta he bought for £500, meaning the insurance premium was over six times the cost of the car.

Insurers Quick to Blame Car Accident Compensation Claim Solicitors

Insurance companies have been quick to pass on the blame of these rates to personal injury solicitors.  A spokesperson for Churchill car insurance argued that insurance companies have no other option but to put the prices up so high.  She stated:

“Over £2.7 million per day is paid to personal injury lawyers, while 20 per cent of every premium goes to pay for whiplash claims.”

However, this overt blaming of those pursuing a car accident compensation claim for the 20 per cent increase in every premium is difficult to believe in the context of their pre-tax profits of £160 million for the first half of 2011 alone – an increase of 27% compared with the same period last year.

The blaming of those pursuing a car accident compensation claim seems to be an attempt to excuse the decisions of insurance companies increasing premiums to boost their profits.

It is having a damaging effect on the industry which seeks to fight on behalf of those injured as a result of someone else’s negligence. It may actually put people off making a valid claim in the fear of rising premiums if they do.

Make an Honest Car Accident Compensation Claim with No Fear

However, it is not those making valid claims who should suffer for using the insurance in the way it was designed – insurance companies should commit to their sole purpose without passing on costs to honest drivers.

Instead of blame being passed on to personal injury solicitors it should lie with insurance companies for using it as a scapegoat to hide their inflating profits behind.  Those involved in road traffic accidents should not be manipulated into not claiming for personal injury if they have indeed suffered.
