A promising young footballer who had undertaken trials at a number of Premier League clubs has been awarded £5 million compensation after a motorcycle accident involving a van in 2002.
Luke Brock, who was 16 at the time of the road traffic accident, was hit by a van in Thornton Heath, Croydon, suffering a brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. He was forced to give up his education at Coulsdon College where he was taking a Business Studies course, as well as forgetting about his dream to become a Premier League footballer.
Mr Brock suffered multiple injuries alongside the brain injury, including fractures to both of his wrists, his right elbow and ankle and a fractured right femur. Alongside all the physical aspects of his injuries, which were quite severe, the motorcycle accident also led to Luke going through a long period of depression, living almost as a recluse as he came to terms with his injury and struggled with his recovery.
£5 Million Compensation will assist in Recovery from Motorcycle Accident
Mr Brock is now completely dependent on 24 hour care from his mother since the motorcycle accident, and the £5 million compensation will go some way to giving his entire family the financial support that will allow them to look after Luke in the best possible way.
The High Court has awarded the £5 million pound compensation to be paid in a lump sum of £2.05 million and an annual payment of £50,000 for the rest of his life. The personal injury compensation award will go some way to improving Luke’s quality of life, and allow his family to move into a home that is more suitable for his long term care.
The £5 million compensation award will also go some way to helping with his long term rehabilitation schedule to recover both physically and psychologically.
