Arm Injury Claim For Compensation

A man has made an arm injury claim for compensation after he suffered burns when a faulty gas bottle ignited and set him alight.

Victor Barrell was mending a roof when a fire ball erupted from a gas canister; the 65-year-old was saved from more serious injuries by the actions of his brother-in law Roland Delve, who used a hose to put out the flames on Mr Barrell’s clothes, flesh and hair.

After the accident Mr Barrell attended Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital where he received treatment at the specialist burns unit as a result of the injuries that he sustained.

He was required to use creams and bandages for three months after the accident; he now has permanent scarring on one of his arms and his skin still suffers in the sun two years on from the date of the accident.

Arm Injury Claim Made For £6,000

As a result of the injuries sustained Mr Barrell made a successful arm injury claim for £6,000 against the company that supplied the faulty gas bottle.

“I was extraordinarily unlucky, but extraordinarily lucky at the same time.” He said.

Mr Barrell’s brother-in-law said that the incident reminded him ‘of a scene from the film Backdraft’, and he has vowed never to use gas canisters again after the incident.

He added: “After, my wife Joy was really upset and my grandson would not come near me because my face was so crusty and I couldn’t shave, so I looked like an old tramp. I still can’t use gas bottles now and I have given my barbecue away.”
