Asbestos Compensation for Former Railway Apprentice

A former British rail worker has been awarded asbestos compensation after developing an asbestos related illness due to his five years as an apprentice in the industry from 1949.

David Stevenson, 79, told the Derby Telegraph how he had been exposed to asbestos whilst visiting the firm’s workshops during his apprenticeship, and also came into contact with blue asbestos during duties to remove the substance from tins to use for packing.

About three years ago, Mr Stevenson began to experience breathing difficulties, which was later confirmed as pleural thickening in the lining of the lungs. It is a benign condition yet Mr Stevenson is worried that it could become something serious and has claimed asbestos compensation from BRB (Residuary) Ltd; the company in control of all liabilities associated with the former British Railway Board.

After serving his apprenticeship from the age of 16 at Derby Locomotive works, Mr Stevenson moved into administration and a number of different roles within British Rail during his career before retiring at the age of 55.

Asbestos Compensation Eases a Worried Mind of a Family Man

Mr Stevenson has decided not to disclose the amount of asbestos compensation he has received. He was surprised at the change in his health and encourages others in a similar situation to claim compensation just as he did for the sake of his wife, Eileen, 74, as much as for himself.

He said, “I’ve always been fit but I started to find I was quite breathless, particularly if I took the dog for a walk.
