Demolition Worker Awarded Multimillion-Pound Compensation Settlement

A demolition worker who was left brain damaged after an accident at work has been awarded a multimillion pound brain injury compensation settlement.

Chris Kaye, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire will receive £135,000 every year for the rest of his life as well as a lump sum payment of £1.75million after the firm he was working for admitting 90% liability for the accident.

The 57-year-old was hit in the face by machinery when he was working for Euro Dismantling Services Ltd; he was attempting to change an attachment on an excavator when he was hit by a metal bar that sprang up, knocking him to the ground.

He was taken to Sheffield Hospital to undergo life-saving brain surgery but was left with severe brain damage as a result of the accident.

Brain Injury Compensation Will Help With Round-The-Clock-Care

Euro Dismantling Services initially denied any responsibility for the incident but eventually accepted 90% liability after lawyers argued that Mr Kaye had received inadequate training and safety equipment to complete his job. Jill Greenfield, who represented Mr Kaye, said:

“This was a terrible accident that could have been avoided had better equipment and training been in place at Mr Kaye’s workplace.

“This accident has had a profound effect on Mr Kaye and his family who are devoted to him.”

The legal team representing Mr Kaye predicted that the brain injury compensation package was likely to reach £4.2m based on a life expectancy of 20 years.

The settlement will be used to help improve his quality of life and provide round-the-clock-care. Mr Kaye’s wife, Sue, said:

“No amount of money will help Chris to fully recover or give me back my loving husband of 32 years, nor will my children ever have the same dad.”
