Brain Injury Compensation

Brain Injury Compensation Claimed After Accident Involving Pete Doherty’s Car

A man from Ipswich has made a successful claim for brain injury compensation after he was run over by Pete Doherty’s Daimler.

The car was being driven by the singer’s agent Andrew Boyd and struck Christopher Corder in September 2009 when he was out delivering church newsletters. As a result of the accident Mr Corder suffered ‘very severe’ brain injuries and several fractures.

Boyd was uninsured at the time of the accident and was jailed for driving offences while Doherty, the former Libertines and Babyshambles singer, was subsequently banned from driving for allowing his car to be driven by an uninsured motorist.

Brain Injury Compensation Will Help Provide Care For The Victim

Following the accident Mr Corder is in a stable condition but is now unaware of his surroundings. At the High Court he received a lump sum brain injury compensation settlement from the Motor Insurers Bureau as well as a five-figure annual payment to help provide continuing care for the 45-year-old.

As part of the court order the MIB-who compensate victims of uninsured or untraceable drivers- can now attempt to get their money back from Boyd and Doherty. Mr Corder’s barrister stated that the action had been brought at the ‘express request’ of the MIB because it was known that his car had caused the damage.

Mr Justice Lloyd Jones, who approved the settlement, commented:

“This has been a tragic case and the financial award is, of course, limited in what it can do. Sadly, you cannot undo what has happened. He had suffered great misfortune. He is, of course, fortunate in that he has a loving and devoted family.

“I hope that now the litigation has come to an end will enable you to look to the future in the knowledge that whatever happens he will be secure.”

After the court proceedings the family’s solicitor stated that the family were ‘relieved that a settlement has been obtained’.

Mr Corder’s family attended court but did not want to comment on the order.
