Back Injury Compensation Claim Made Against The National Film And Television School

A costume designer is claiming £300,000 in back injury compensation after she was left paralysed when she fell from a staircase.

The Daily Telegraph have reported how Sunwoo Chun, 37, is pursuing a claim against the National Film and Television School after she fell three metres causing her to fracture her spine in three places.

The designer had been carrying out voluntary work at the National Film and Television School on a film called Motel 66 and had travelled to London to gain experience in costume design after training in her native South Korea.

Miss Chun received treatment at Wrexham Hospital and was then moved to the Spinal Cord Injury Centre at Stanmore.

Back Injury Compensation Claim – Allegations Of Negligence

According to the High Court writ Miss Chun was adjusting an actor’s trousers when the incident occurred. She had climbed to the top of the stairs to check the trousers before taking a couple of steps backwards and falling to the ground.

Miss Chun is alleging that the company acted negligently because they failed to provide suitable handrails, failed to warn her of the dangers, allowed her to work on the stairs when it was unsafe, failed to provide a safe system of work and failed to take adequate care for her safety.

The writ also states that her family have had to travel to the UK to stay with her and she has required assistance from professional carers.

She will now need someone to help with domestics chores, DIY, home maintenance and shopping. It is also likely that she may require pain killing medication and counselling.

The National Film and Television School declined to comment on the incident.
