Medical Compensation Claim Following Leg Amputation
A police officer has begun a medical compensation claim against a hospital after his leg was amputated above the knee.
The Bournemouth Echo has reported how PC Miles Wilson is pursuing a compensation claim as a result of the treatment he received at Southampton Hospital.
The 39-year-old police officer slipped on a fence and broke his leg in two places while on duty when responding to an emergency call.
He was an in-patient at Southampton General Hospital where he received treatment for five days, before having his leg amputated above the knee after surgeons believed that the blood supply had been cut off and the tissues were dead.
PC Wilson has since returned to work but can now only carry out light duties and now uses a prosthetic leg.
His solicitors are claiming that the hospital was negligent in failing to carry out surgery within 12 hours of the accident and failed to conduct scans and exploratory surgery that may have saved the police officer’s leg.
With the correct medical treatment PC Wilson believes that he would have been able to walk for two miles without a walking stick, managed to climb stairs and returned to work within 12 months of the accident.
