Road Accident Compensation – Lollipop Lady Now Requires Care For Rest Of Her Life
A lollipop lady is making a road accident compensation claim after she was knocked down while helping people to cross the road. Eleanor Harman was standing in the middle of Beach Road, South Shields, displaying her lollipop sign when she was struck by a Peugeot 307 on February 2 of last year.
Harry Harman is now pursuing a claim for compensation on behalf of his wife Eleanor, after she sustained serious injuries in the accident.
“Eleanor suffered extremely serious injuries, and didn’t even know why she was in hospital for the first six months.” He said.
“She will never again be able to live completely independently as a result of someone else’s actions, and our lives will never be the same. I just hope this story highlights the need for more care on the roads, so others don’t have to experience what we have gone through.”
Road Accident Compensation – Mrs Harman Still Suffers From Memory Loss And Mood Swings
After the accident Mrs Harman was taken to the intensive care unit of Newcastle’s Royal Infirmary. She spent two days unconscious before being transferred to the specialist brain injury centre at Walkergate Park, where she stayed up until last week.
The solicitor representing Mrs Harman in her claim for compensation hopes that a settlement will improve her quality of life.
He said: “Eleanor has gone through significant rehabilitation with the NHS, but we are seeking a full lifetime package of care so that she and Harry can have some semblance of a normal and comfortable life.”
During a three-day trial into the incident the court heard that the driver of the Peugeot 307, Margaret Boyles, became blinded by the sun but did not attempt to stop or slow down, despite not being able to see clearly. The court found the 69-year-old guilty of driving without due care and attention. She received a fine of £95, was ordered to pay costs of £500 and received four points on her licence.
