Car Technician Crashes at 100mph and Claims Car Crash Compensation from Employers
A Ferrari technician at a centre in Maidstone, Kent, has begun proceedings to claim car crash compensation from his employers after suffering serious personal injury as a result of a high speed crash on the A274 near Headcorn in Kent.
The high performance Ferrari 348 TS was being test driven by 31 year old Stephen Harris at the time of the road traffic accident. After losing control of the vehicle at a speed of 100mph, the car careered into another vehicle on the road.
Mr Harris suffered horrendous personal injury as a result of the accident and now requires 24 hour a day care and attention due to being paralysed from the neck down and left to a lifetime in a wheelchair. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the incident suffered only minor injuries.
Car Crash Compensation Claimed Due to Accusations of Negligent Employers
Mr Harris claims that his employers were negligent in allowing him to test drive a high performance vehicle on the open road. He also claims that his former employer, Roger Collingwood, had instructed him that he was to take the car up to speeds of 100mph in order to fully assess whether the Ferrari was running smoothly or not the Telegraph reports.
He had asked him to ‘open her up’ in order to test the £30,000 supercar leaving him open to an accident such as the one that took place, hitting the other vehicle before crashing into some trees off road.
Mr Harris was employed to service and repair supercars from the Kent showroom before testing them out on the open road in preparation for its first use by buyers.
Mr Collingwood, the owner of Kent High Performance Cars denied negligence.
He stated that all of his employees are given a strict set of rules in which to obey when test driving vehicles on the road and that he never told his staff to exceed the national speed limits.
‘’All staff are told that under no circumstances can they break the laws of the road and they are never to exceed the speed limit. It is tragic what happened to Stephen, but we strongly dispute any claim of negligence on our part.’’
