Work Shadowing

Work shadowing is a great way to gain experience in the legal sector and gives you great insight and preparation into what life is like working at a law firm. Imagine how nervous you would be if the first time you stepped into a law firm it was for a job interview?

How it works at DG

We currently offer a single day shadowing a member of our team in one of the three positions we offer recruits.

  • First Response
  • Tri-Star Costs
  • Debt Recovery

Why bother?

It gives you the opportunity to see how a personal injury law firm works – whether you decide you either love or hate our field of work, either way it will give you a clearer indication on which route to go on after completing your LPC/GDL.

You will be able to listen to the interaction with clients and review cases, gaining a more in-depth understanding into life as a personal injury solicitor.

Your experience will allow you to learn things that aren’t covered academically which will help you in your future career, whatever you decide to do.

Finally, by gaining as much hands on experience as possible, your CV will stand out and it could give you the edge against other candidates who may be competing with you for a job.

We have had very positive feedback from people who have spent time with us work shadowing and also on placement.

Our advice

Make sure you dress appropriately in order to make a good first impression and don’t be afraid to ask questions. This is your time to get stuck in and find out more about the firm you are with. It is not unknown for shadowing to lead to a longer placement or even a job – two of our current members of staff Sarah Healey and Lauren Roberts started out shadowing our senior solicitors.

Current vacancies

We currently have three spaces a week for a week long placement up until Christmas. If you are interested please apply here.

What we are doing

We will be attending careers fairs across the North-West – make sure you attend and come and introduce yourself to us – don’t be shy!
